Andres Iniesta has reached Emilio Butragueno’s
record of featuring in 50 unbeaten La Liga
matches consecutively after Barcelona’s 2-0 win
over Sevilla on Saturday.
The attacking midfielder has now tasted victory
in 42 of the past 50 matches in the Primera
Division in which he has featured, with the
remaining eight ending in draws.
His last defeat came at the start of last season,
where Barca succumbed to a 2-0 reverse against
Hercules in only the second match of the
2010-11 campaign.
However, Iniesta has now put himself on par
with the Real Madrid legend Butragueno. The
former striker had won 34 and drawn 16 of his
positive 50-game streak between 1987 and
1989.
The 27-year-old playmaker now has the chance
to break the record against Granada on Tuesday,
when the new boys make the trip to Camp Nou.
