Two friends discussing, came to a conclusion that they both need to save some amount of money to acquire some thing that would be of great use to them. Both friends went on their way to plan how to go about their newly discovered endeavour.
The first friend decided to save 40% of his monthly income, he thought to himself, if I do save 40% every month then in 6 months I should be through. The second friend in his quarters that night chose to save 10% of his income every month for two years. Both friend were on the same pay level, they earned the same amount.
By the third month of the endeavour, the first friend couldn’t pay all his bills so he had to take out of the money he had saved, the fourth month, he could only save half of what he had planned. He then decided to stall the plan the next month till he had a pay rise or received some bulk money. The second friend completed his savings in the stipulated time.
In life, we have various reasons to set goals, we all need something, we all wish to get better but every desirable thing comes with a price. In paying the required price for what we desire, we need a plan, a way to accomplish the great dreams we have.
In setting goals, steps, to our desired journey, we might be tempted to make each step huge enough to get us there as soon as possible. This, most of the time place us on great stress, thus our goals become a huge burden, every time we are reminded of the tasks we set for ourselves, we shrug and need a lot of encouragement within ourselves to get through them.
In setting goals, one should break down the tasks (steps, milestones) into small ones, into amounts that won’t be too much or hard on us, and will be enough to get us where we are going in a reasonable time frame. Doing this gives enough room to conveniently form the habit or get used to what is required with little stress. Then as one progresses, one can increase the amount of the tasks if need be.
A journey begins with a step, to achieve great things, one needs a plan. All great runners, once crawled as babies, then learned to walk, after which they grew and then trained to run. Lets set goals for ourselves dividing them into little achievable steps. Then, with time, we’d achieve our dreams.
