Klopp joy at record-breaking Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp
hailed his team for their record-breaking
Bundesliga title triumph this season.
Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Freiburg
means the German champions end their
campaign on 81 points, the highest-ever
tally set by a club in the German top-
flight.
Leading those rejoicing in Dortmund’s
excellent campaign, Klopp commended
his team for making their successes look
easy on the football pitch.
“We have, once again, fought well in two
difficult games, but the team have made it
look easy,” he said after the match.
“This has crowned our season. I told the guys
today, ‘we will not have 81 points given to us in
the flesh after the game but the championship
trophy instead’.
“If we look back in 30 years, we can do so
knowing that, so far, no other club has earned
more points.”
Sporting director Michael Zorc had his say on
Dortmund’s record: “The previous record was 40
years old. This shows what a gigantic
achievement that was. I can only salute the
players.”
Midfielder Sebastian Kehl had been plagued by
injuries earlier in his Dortmund career, but
after contributing to this season’s title success,
he said: “This title victory is, for me, worth more
than last year’s.
“In addition, the team has accomplished more
than last year because it was much more difficult
this time round.
“Last year we became surprise German
champions. This year the signs were somewhat
different. The fact that we still have created
several records shows that this team is intact.”
Kevin Grosskreutz also could not hide his delight
following Saturday’s record-clinching victory.
“I’ve dreamed of it as a little boy. Now I’ve
become a German champion with my club twice.
It’s unbelievable,” he said.
